Forth Randolph Restoration

FORT RANDOLPH COMMITTEE

On August 29, 1996, the Fort Randolph Foundation reorganized to revive the importance of such a historical treasure. New officers and a board of directors were elected to promote the development of fort Randolph as a historic landmark. New period buildings were erected at the fort to display and depict early pioneer life, as it existed in the 1770’s.

This 18th century replica is located at Krodel Park in Point Pleasant, Mason County, West Virginia. It was constructed in honor of the American Revolution’s Bicentennial celebration and dedicated on October 10, 1974. The original Fort Randolph was built near the confluence of the Great Kanawha and Ohio Rivers in May 1776-in honor of Peyton Randolph. It was at this fort that the murder of Cornstalk, Shawnee Chief, occurred.

Among the many additions and accomplishments since August 1996 by the Fort Randolph Foundation to the Fort is the construction of a cabin there within; a 24’ x 42 trading post built inside the Fort; a 2,250’ walking trail; and, the importation, re-assembling and resurrection of an authentic 1-1/2 story log pioneer cabin directly outside the perimeters of the Fort.

Much progress has been completed within a short period of time. We continue to solicit financial assistance in order to aid our momentum. Point Pleasant s pivotal role in the Revolutionary War is being greatly expanded and recognized by historians and national societies, and we feel these improvements are a vital link in tying our past to the present and future.
